This week the church explorer visits St Mary Magdalen Oxford which was originally a Saxon church that got burned down in 1074 it would have been outside the North Gate, There is more history to read in the link above
East end looking from over the road looking at the font does not show how big the church is
Back looking at the north west
First look from inside the door
Last of all the south aisle or fourth one which is the lady chapel
Going back to the Nave
Turning around looking down the nave at the west window
Looking from the lady chapel across the church
Looking up at the ceiling of the nave
South aisle altar and east window
South ails east window
East wall decoration
Third aisle or south aisle
Altar with simple covering and just an altar cross
The east window
The Lady chapel which I think is superb
Everything just stands out
Altar and reredos
The reredos is stunning to look at
The east window I find compliments in it's beauty as well
North window of the chapel
West wall, the door here is partly blocked but has a smaller door inserted, I'm pretty sure there is a porch the other side
There are a good many memorials in the church
This is an unusual memorial to see, as it if from the Korean war, Lieut John Firth was killed in 1951
Church brasses now shown on the wall
One collage I did not have to make sowing memorials
Bequest of John Tatlor of Woodstock
Various icons and stature in the church
This beautiful memorial belongs to Anne who died in 1673
This is another quite beautiful one though you cannot read the inscription, I should think it is a similar age
You can see these either side of the main aisle
This memorial belongs to Guil Pickering who died in 1635
Another beautiful stained glass window which I think is in the lady chapel
One from the north asile
Beautiful floral display
I really do not know who this person is though is picture is prominently displayed
Stations of the cross
This is a medieval oak "Jewel Chest"
I do not have an age for the font but presume it is medieval
With that I will say till next time may I wish you all a peaceful week
