Wallingford Methodist Church

I would not like to think how many times I have gone past this church while driving though Wallingford. You cannot miss where it stands in St Martins Square. The church come about thanks to John Wesley visiting the two to preach on four occasions. It was built in 1873 and is still in use today. This was the first time I got to visit the church and look inside and also the first Methodist church I have been to

This is how it looked in 2008, The church is on the left, the building on the right was a library but now is owned by the church and is used as a hall

In 2024 the church had changed very little, the entrance to the church and hall is through the doors in the center

Flowers welcome you, there was also a seniors keep fit class going on in the hall

I did ask it it was OK to get some photos and was very impressed with ho wit looked inside. This is the first Methodist church I have been in and I could see right away it had been reordered, the old pews being removed and replaced by chairs

I was also show up to the gallery where you got a view of the whole church

Zooming in to the altar

A cross is above the altar where you would see an east window in other churches

A more modern altar replaced what was there originally

On one wall you can see this commemoration of the church being founded

On the opposite side you find memorials to members of the congregation

The one which stands out is to Pastor W.G. Ellis

Nearby a window which has been painted giving the impression of stained glass

From the lectern a view towards the back of the church and the gallery

A collage of the window and flowers

Outside again I walked over the road to take a photo of the church and hall.
Till next time may I wish you all a peaceful weekend

  1. The inside is very typical of Methodist churches in America, Billy. Not ornate, but simple in its beauty. Have a blessed week!

  3. I haven't been inside a methodist church but the simplicity of this church is lovely. I do like the window painted to resemble stained glass.

  4. Same here...I like the simpliciity of the Church. Most Methodist Churches I've visited or are usually not elaborate. Great photos.
