After visiting St Margarets I returned the same way I came back through Bacton and slowed when I saw the sign of the church, on looking I noticed it was only a short distance up the road so went for a look, I'm glad I did. The churchyard photos were taken mostly from the back as the grass wast wet from the rain that day, I still ended up with wet feet
The parish church of St Faith's dates from 13th century and has a lengthy entry in Pevsner's survey of the county's buildings.
Inside is a memorial to Blanche Parry. It is possible that an altar cloth belonging to the church was made from a dress once worn by Queen Elizabeth I of England and given to Blanche Parry. The material of the cloth appears to form part of the clothing of the Queen in the early 17th-century "Rainbow Portrait", attributed to Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger.[7][8]
The church belongs to the Ewyas Harold group of parishes and has a service about once a month
Going around to view the church from the north east
South along the churchyard path
Another north east view
West end showing the bell tower
From just inside the gate
Churchyard east of the church
West from beside the porch
East back down the footpath
Fenced in headstone
A few headstones north west of the church
Back along the path to the entrance gate
Churchyard between the paths
Near the porch
The porch and the way in
Inside looking down the nave
Portrait view of the altar and east window
Closer view
Altar and reredos
The east window
This memorial was over on the north side of the chancel beside the altar
The first thing I noticed was the effigy of Queen Elizabeth I easy recognised by her holding the orb and I'm sure there was a scepter as her hand seems to be missing one, the lady beside here I thought could be a lady in waiting
The inscription does tell you about the lady beside her
Her name is Blanche Parry and she is buried in Wesminster Abby where there is a another monument to her
Looking back out to the nave
Nice looking eagle lectern
Pulpit
View down from the pulpit
The organ off on the north side of the chancel
I even found the light switch for the keyboard
the church has some nice stained glass
This one is St Michael and St George
St Laurence & St Stephen
St Anne and St Mary
Memorial to Alexander Stantar and his wife Rachel he died in 1620 and followed is wife in 1663
Couple of doors in the north wall, the one on the right higher up and could have been a rood loft entrance
The wooden freeze above looks old
Memorials in the church at the back
Memorials to William Bailey, Partridge and his wife Mary
The memorials here all seem related
One to Arthur John Wheeler
The Roll of Honour for Bacton
Memorial to Charles Thomas Brothers
Davis memorial
Hamp memorial
The font and cover
This is the Bacton Altar cloth or should I say a photo of it, the original is now in the care of Hampton Court Palace
It probably came from one of the dresses of Queen Elizabeth I
I did not get all the info I am afraid
Last look at the altar and monument.
Till next time have a peaceful week
