Holy Trinity West Hendred

This is a church I visited a few years ago and though it was open there was a service going on so I felt it a bit rude to go in so it will have to wait till I get the chance to go back again.

Entrance to the churchyard is through this lychgate

which leads along the footpath that takes you though the churchyard and onto Ardington.

The porch leading into the church from the outside and inside

 The belltower

The north side with the north aisle

Along the side you can see these buttresses

You can see a couple of doorways on the north side though one was blocked up years ago

Looking across the churchyard.

The chancel end of the church with the chancel cross on top

The war grave of Private H.F.Cooper

Lance Sargent W.F.Reeley is another war grave in the churchyard

  3. «Louis» always looks forward to seeing your wonderfully detailed posts for inSPIREd Sunday.

Seeing the grave of that soldier from World War I reminded «Louis» (who reads a lot of military history) of how those armchair generals such as Haig sat in their appropriated châteaux in France, not visiting the front lines and seeing how their lack of vision as to how to break through made cannon fodder of men like the one in that grave.

«Louis» posted this Episcopal (Anglican) church in the Victorian village of Ferndale, California.

  9. Thanks for your very entertaining comment on my blog, Mike. I like yours and am now following. . Have you been to the church of St. Swithuns, Wickham (Berks)? well worth taking a look at the somewhat eccentric interior although I don't know about the graves

  11. What a wonderful church and grounds-there is something comforting about have the graves so close to the church, and this one is a picture waiting to be painted.
