Agatha Christie

Better go for one of the more famous in my collection and really need no introduction.

Strange how you can live somewhere and not know such a famous person lived nearby
She lived in Winterbrook in Cholsey near Wallingford in this house which I past many times, every day when I was an apprentice.

Even today you will pass by it going to Wallingford along the Reading Road

A blue plaque can be seen by the front door and I've seen many people from all over the world looking at it taking photo's and even selfies.
There is a walk called the Agatha Christie Trail which runs from Wallingford to where she is buried at St Mary's in Cholsey and it you go looking for the grave it's over in the right hand corner of the churchyard. Rather than tell her life story Wikipedia can do a better job
Since writing this blog the headstone has been cleaned up

Great post. What an amazing gravestone. I really love the winged heads.

This is a much more feminine looking gravestone than I would have expected for such a woman (not to be insulting, you understand, just my impression of her)

So this is what I missed by not stopping by on my way through. Thanks for sharing as I now finally get to see the headstone.

This is fascinating Bill. Great photos! I have been a fan of her books for years. I read that two billion copies of her collective works have been sold and that her Dad was an American stockbroker. Great photos! Thanks for visiting my post on Exeter Cathedral. I wasn't aware of a charge for taking photos and did not see any signs, though we did leave a donation in the box when we left.

Wonderful tour. A couple of years ago I set out to read all her books in order. I did it too. I love them.

Apparently Capability Brown is buried in a village near here, I must pay him a visit some time. I did stay once in the hotel where Agatha Christie wrote "The Mysterious Affair at Styles", but I know very little about her - though I now know where she ended up!

There are quite a few famous people buried in our local churchyards

That is very interesting! It's nice that she has both of her names on her grave. I also noticed that her husband was 14 years younger than her, which sounds like a lot!
