Long Hanborough Methodist Church

Long Hanborough Methodist Church is just along the road a bit from Christ Church it was built in 1885 and has been the centre of the village working closely with other Methodist churches in the area

The first three photos were taken the same day I visited Christ Church

and it has changed little over the years

Taken a few months ago and the church has gained a new sign

The other thing I noticed was there is a place were you can have coffee & cake and I might add I saw more than a few people going in for one 

Maybe I should have as I may well have gotten a couple of photos inside the church itself

Christ Church Long Hanborough

I had forgotten I had visited this church as it was quite a long time ago I took the photos but passing it recently reminded me . No internal photos as the church was locked but a little history form their website

"Christ Church was designed by E.H.L. Barker and was built in 1893 on the north side of the main road that runs through Long Hanborough (now known as the A4095).

Until the late 18th century, St Peter and St Paul in Church Hanborough was the only place of worship. By the 1890s it was realised that dwindling congregations were partly due to the need to walk from Long Hanborough. So to deal with this, the resident rector had a "mission church" build - and so Christ Church came into existence"

St Mary Chalgrove Pt 2

As promised from last week my photos from inside St Mary Chalgrove I must admit I thought of showing the photo below as a teaser buy forgot I had it on my phone. This is the entrance porch with wrought iron work on it which is also glazed, though this you see the church door, if you look to the top right you can see part of a painting. The walls of the porch have more paintings on as well but I could not get a good shot of them due to the light. This door is only used on (I presume) services that are held at the church, any other time you get a key and enter through the North door. Over one side is a squint

and the chancel floor a couple of church brasses

There are a few memorials in the chancel that were placed there before the wall paintings were uncovered

This one looks a little grotesque on the Francis Markham memorial

This one seems to be dated 1623

and it to Benedict Winchcombe 

Robert Quatremain memorial dated 1697

Left the church chest stood on a hand bier  which no doubt is as old at the chest

which if you look on the top is dated 1674 with the initials of the people who had the keys to it

The main item I came to see was the wall paintings which decorate the chancel
