A short blog this week compared to others I have posted in the past. The St Bartholomew's Chapel is not far from the church I featured last week and one I returned to a few weeks later. It's one of Oxford Hidden Gems being set back off the busy Cowley road. I left my car at the church I had visited and walked up the road and by luck ran into the vicar of the church who was kind enough to let me in saving finding the key holder. You can find the history on the church in the link above but I will tell you it was founded by Henry Ist in the 12th century as part of a Hospital
There are not that many photos to see this week but I will say the chapel was one that eluded Peace and a place you could just sit and be one with yourself and God
First look at the chapel from the fence

There is no much in the churchyard apart from some apple trees and the trimmed bush

Along the south side the taking of photos of the chapel is limited

Inside the first thing you see is the rood screen
Behind which is the altar, easier to show in a panoramic view

The roof was neat with the shields painted different colours
The roof trusses all looked original

I have seen these marks on other churches and the only thing that there once used to be a plaque stuck on the wall but now long gone

And one last look as you go. What can you say it one of those chapels that you can go along and be a peace with yourself which is rare

What a peaceful chapel - you can sense the quiet atmosphere. A no-frills place with no distractions from prayer. Love your Mosaic at the end.

That was one of the nice features of the church
DeleteWhat a simple but beautiful chapel and you can just sense that peaceful atmosphere. I do like the roof with the shields and the mosaic at the end.

DeleteThat was very kind of the vicar to let you in. It is such a small chapel and it definitely looks very old! From a distance it looks like an old house because it doesn't have a spire or tower.
