After visiting the church in Henley on Thames I noted that Fawley was not very far away and only a short distance off the road I travelled to go back home. I should have know better because the roads were single track and mostly uphill which made for an interesting if winding road to get there.
"The Church of England parish church of Saint Mary the Virgin was rebuilt in 1748. It has a Tree of Life stained glass window designed by the artist John Piper (who lived nearby in Fawley Bottom) and Patrick Reyntiens." If you click on the above ling it will take you to a more in depth history on Wikipedia
The entrance to the churchyard is via this Lychgate
Once through you get a good view of the church with its wide tower.
The door in the base is the entrance but was as far as I got because on opening the door you were confronted by a mesh door that was locked despite the sign inside telling you it was open between 10am & 4pm
May be another time
The East end
back to the South side
On walking through the Lychgate you cannot help miss the The Mackenzie Mausoleum it is huge
There is an inscription on the side
with more burials in the grounds of it
The door adorned with the family crest and above a winged timer no doubt indicating life flying away
Look yo from there and in the distance you see the The Freeman Mausoleum
Over to the right is the village war memorial in the shape of a Celtic cross. Right the churchyard near the roadside wall
The Freeman Mausoleum which is even bitter than the Mackenzie Mausoleum
This is around the North side of the church
Above looking past the church along the West end of the churchyard where you can also find the more recent cemetery extension with recent burials
the South side of which is a little older
Looking West along the South side
Above a family tomb with a cross laid down. Right some graves near the extension
Last look at the churchyard
A last look at the church before I leave.
Till Next time I wish you all a great weekend

...the gate is a wonderful feature of the churches that you share Bill. The mausoleums are interesting, so many of your other post have never shown them.
The winged hourglass is quite unusual to me.
You seem to find an endless supply of ancient churches. Thank you for the thorough tours.
