Kennerton Church

This week we visit the first of two churches that I visited in Wales. I'm not sure even why I decided to go here other than I noticed it on my maps and it was only a little off the road  I was on. Now there is very little history I can find on the place other that the village seems to have been around in 1304. The church looks to have been a chapel of ease for Old Radnor church before it was rebuilt in 1844-5 as to what was there before nothing remains.

You park up beside a farm and you get a good view of the church from over the wall.
The churchyard has a number of tombs and headstones in it

Inside it looks like a simple layout with a chancel at one end

Which is carpeted in Green like the altar

There are a few memorials along the walls of the church and and some nice oil lamp holders

A couple of which can be seen in the chancel

Where you can also see the Roll of Honour for the village.

There is also a very nice stained glass window in the church

As I go back outside I look at the Font top and the rabbit between the two vases of yellow tulips

For the size of the village the churchyard is surprisingly large

Going around the north side a path leads through it















and you pass a large empty area where the more recent burials happen

On the gatepost is a memorial to Robert Thomson of the Coldstream Guards who was killed in Belgium in 1945

There are a couple more churches not far away so I will come back to the area to see them in the future. Next week we will be visiting another church in Wales that is on my list. I will leave you this week with a photo of a headstone near the church, The duck caught my eye.
