Olewydd Congregational Chapel

Not much I can tell you about this chapel other than it is a mile or so away from the previous Church I visited.  It is one I have passed and noted and a cemetery beside it so I felt it was worth looking at

The chapel faces the road and looks well kept

The date plaque shows it was erected in 1847 and re-erected in 1883

Going around the side you can see it is built of red brick

while at the back seems to be another two story area

The opposite side is rendered and painted like the front

Which tends to fool you a bit. I wonder why it was not rendered on the other parts

Right one of the monuments in the cemetery

It's not the only one as you can see others standing above the headstones

Or over near the wall

One with an urn on top.

Left a view of the cemetery at the front of the chapel

Some of the more recent headstone in the cemetery

Looking away from the chapel at the cemetery
For the size of the chapel I was surprised at how many headstones the cemetery held

Above a wooden cross that I thought was unusual to see with the slate cross beam

Right the cemetery near the road at the front of the chapel

The graves are packed in but well spaced and the cemetery very neat

Most of the headstones are nearly as old as the chapel

Looking at chapel from over the road

I will leave you with this view of the chapel from in front of the gates. Till next time I wish you all a peaceful weekend and pleasant week ahead

Interesting. Was surprised by the newer graves and love the wooden cross with the slate.

...lovely, I wish that they had not painted the brick. The Thomas Williams stone is beautiful.

You do wonder why some of the facade was left unpainted. It looks well cared for.

Any old church I think is worth looking into. Good to see it's nice and tidy there.

Interesting pictures. I am also wondering why they didn't paint all of it.
