This is a short blog but I feel it is worthy of being shown in the Church Explorer. The chapel is off the Quad at St Edmunds Hall College and was built in the late 17th century being famous for painting ‘Supper at Emmaus’ by Ceri Richards that hangs over the altar plus the stained glass window by William Morris and Edward-Burne Jones.
This panel in the glass case is dated 1528 and looks amazing

There are more stained glass widows to see this is one of them
Bible open for reading

Beautifully carved poppyhead
This was the first college chapel I have visited and as most of the collages have them I will try visit some of the others as well.

How unique to feature the supper at Emmaus in this church. I love this Billy! May we all know that Jesus walks our journey with us.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting chapel and the poppy head design is unusual. I do like the William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones window.
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting chapel and just love the WM and B-J windows. A painting by Ceri Richards was on the Antiques Roadshow I watched last night. Do visit some more of the College Chapels.
